THRIVE against the grain — learning to bite off what you can chew

Welcome to Laura’s new and improved website!

I’m excited to have a blog-focused site as a venue for continuous dialogue with all of you who are on the road less traveled.

More than anything I love to help inspired professionals to find the best fit for their passions and talents, especially when that means breaking from convention. It’s not at all easy – I know!

Last year I was awarded the prestigious Al Marks Inventive Mind grant from Idea Café – which I won mostly because of support and encouragement from all of you in the THRIVE against the grain community. You really pulled together for me and voted like crazy. I will never forget the power of that.

Upon winning, I had grand plans to launch an audio product but life circumstances (commitment to family, a new full time job) brought me up against that old nemesis “work-life balance” in a new way. The audio project is still sitting on the shelf.

So if your dream to take the road less traveled is on the shelf take heed!

Faced with giving up my dream, I had to change my perspective, recalibrate and reframe the situation. With limited time and resources I decided to pursue my mission in bit sized chunks. Trick now is to bite off what I can chew, and chew what I bite!

The redesign of this site emerged from that new perspective. The grant gave me the resources to create a forum to share information to help you consciously create your life. And it satisfies another of my grant-goals: to help those with terminal illnesses to fulfill their final wishes.

I am blessed to have time to take my meandering route on the road less traveled. But many are out of time.

So through this site I hope to inspire all of you to join me in helping Dream Foundation grant the final wishes to terminally ill adults. As a community we will adopt a dream – one at a time – and raise cash and airline miles to make these dreams a reality. I’ve seen you pull together. I know what you can do — I know we can chew what we are biting off.

I’m giving from my own pocket as well as putting advertising and referral revenues from this site toward the project. Do you want to contribute too? Learn more about the dream we’ve currently adopted. Please join us in this project!

While I’m waxing sappy: kudos to the creative masterminds behind this site. Shazia Mistry rocks with her graphic design and web development. She set me up! Thanks Shaz! And photographer Teri Moy shoots the best unconventional portraits. If you don’t want boring business headshots, talk to Teri! And, don’t forget Idea Cafe — so much energy and so many ideas for entrepreneurs on Idea Cafe. The sky’s the limit!

Finally, thank you to all of you for being here: visiting this site, supporting dreams and living YOUR dreams on the road less traveled. You are my inspiration.
